Would you give up again?

The girl in the picture is Katie Kirkpatrick, she is 21 . Next to her, her fiancé, Nick, 23. The picture was taken shortly before their wedding ceremony, held on January 11, 2005 in the US. Katie has terminal cancer and spend hours a day receiving medication. In the picture, Nick is waiting for her on one of the many sessions of quimo to end.

In spite of all the pain, organ failures, and morphine shots, Katie is going along with her wedding and took care of every detail. The dress had to be adjusted a few times due to her constant weight loss.

An unusual accessory at the party was the oxygen tube that ketie used throughout the ceremony and reception as well. The other couple in the picture are Nick's parents. Excited to see her son marrying his high school sweetheart.

Katie, in her wheelchair with the oxygen tube , listening a song from her husband and friends.

At the reception, katie had to take a few rests. The pain do not let her to be standing up for long periods.

Katie died five days after her wedding day. Watching a women so ill and weak getting married and with a smile on her face makes us think..... Happiness is reachable, no matter how long it last. We should stop making our lives complicated.

Life is short
Break the rules
forgive quickly
kiss passionately, love truly
laugh constantly
And never stop smiling
no matter how strange life is Life is not always the party we expected to be
but as long as we are here, we should smile and be grateful.

i'm tearing..
this is so tragic and oh so beautiful at the same time.

at least she died happy, with all the pain she was suffering at that time, knowing that she has her husband by her side that she truly loves, i'm sure it makes it alot easier for her.

Oh wow, that's touching.

It's stories like these that make you take a step back and look at your life. Many things we take for granted and somethings we complain about, when we should be appreciative.

Lovely story

AW this is such a touching story.. It made me cry.. the best picture is the last one, where they are cuddling!
He is a great guy to go on and marry a dying girl but he gave her happiness even if it was shortlived at least her last days on Earth were fantastic and full of joy.. God bless both of them!
This is true love.. :)
Reminds me of a movie.. It it was called A Walk To Remember based on a Nicholas Sparks book :)

Gives you faith in humanity !

As someone mentioned above, A Walk to Remember is an excellent book.. the movie kinda ruins it though!

I've posted a song on my blog http://bassemkurdi.com/2009/01/11/death-cab-for-cutie-what-sarah-said/

Death Cab for Cutie - What Sarah Said
and it has this line that just hits me and i use it as a status from time to time..

Love is watching someone die..
So who's gonna watch you die?

Great song. and the point is that when you die, most wouldn't want to watch u dying but those who love u will withstand the pain adn be with you till the end.

Since about 5 years, I haven't seen, heard, or read an advice like this following:

Life is short
Break the rules
forgive quickly
kiss passionately, love truly
laugh constantly
And never stop smiling
no matter how strange life is Life is not always the party we expected to be
but as long as we are here, we should smile and be grateful

it gives a perfect image , as long as it's associated with the story. The beauty of these words makes me spending time in thinking..
